An event took place a few days ago when 21-year-old Mitchell Keller, a Xavier High School graduate, pitching in Game 1 of the Western Division playoff series for the Pittsburgh Pirates' Altoona Curve Double-A baseball team performed what in baseball is known as a 'Maddux” (named after Greg Maddux and is reserved for throwing a highly efficient shutout under 100 pitches).
Keller performed this masterpiece against the Eastern League's top offense by throwing only 90 pitches while facing the minimum of 27 Baltimore Orioles Bowie Baysox batters. Congratulations to Mitch Keller. If he stays healthy I'm sure we will see him in the major leagues. He did Cedar Rapids proud.
