Letter: Why vote when it doesn’t matter?

Why bother? Why bother voting - your vote doesn't count. This is proven time and time again. One candidate gets the majority of votes and yet his or her opponent receives the majority of delegates. Proof of this is Donald Trump in Colorado and Bernie Sanders in Utah.
This practice isn't limited in politics at the national level. No, we have a prime example right here at the local level.
We the citizens of Cedar Rapids rejected a special 27-cent tax levy for the library. But lo and behold our city leaders found a way around that rejection. We are going to get additional taxes levied against us whether we like it or not. Not only are we getting the additional taxes, but they state they won't rule out asking for an additional library tax levy somewhere down the line. Why ask? You are just going to find a political loophole and tax us anyway.
Our political system has proved time and time again how corrupt it is. Politicians don't want to know what their voters want - politicians want what they want.
That recent political saying needs some adjustment, it should state - 'Your vote doesn't matter.”
