With the Iowa City school board election on Tuesday, I am happy to support Laura Westemeyer.
I've known her for six years and I've spent time with her as PSTO board members at Northwest Jr. High and West High School; as her part-time employee; and as a fellow football parent.
I have found her to be the type of person who goes above and beyond in everything she does. There is no better example of this than her previous business the Children's Center for Therapy (CCT).
She started the CCT in 2004 after learning about the lack of speech, physical and occupational services for children in Eastern Iowa. The CCT grew to be the largest pediatric therapy rehabilitation provider in Johnson County. Her drive to make these services more readily accessible and available to families in our community has positively impacted countless lives.
Despite running a business, she has made the time to serve on the PSTO boards at Northwest Jr. High and West High School for the past several years. As a board member, she continues to work on behalf of all students in a variety of capacities, especially those with special needs.
The stability and effectiveness of the school board is crucial to the success of our schools and community. Westemeyer would be a tremendous asset to the ICCSD board, bringing significant leadership experience, proven integrity and a boundless commitment to the greater good of all students to her role as a board member.
