Letter: We are fortunate to have diversity

It became more apparent during this past election season that minorities of all colors and stripes have taken a hit. With that in mind we need to bring up the goodness in all citizens regardless of their color, religious persuasion, sexual orientation or whatever causes concern us with the general citizenry.
We are so fortunate in this corridor Johnson and Linn counties (as an example not excluding surrounding counties) to have diversity which we should all be proud of.
Cedar Rapids has the original Mother Mosque started in 1934 and is located on Ninth Street NW; the African-American Museum, the Czech-Slovak Museum, which represent newcomers to our community generations ago as well as more recently. These are surely representative of our community and we should be proud to have them in our midst.
Why don't we make it a practice to become more aware of our differences and religious practices for different from our own? All citizens regardless of race, color, or creed, providing they hold worthwhile values, deserve our consideration, tolerance and friendship. That is what a community is about!
