Linn County is fortunate to have two dynamic women running to represent our local constituency. Ashley Hinson is running for Iowa House District 67 and Rene Gadelha is running for Iowa Senate 34.
Each of these committed, knowledgeable, capable and talented women has unique qualities to bring to this season's political dialogue. Hinson has a journalism background and is a diligent student of issues and how to reach the best solutions. Gadelha is a Linn-Mar School Board member and has her master's degree in instruction and curriculum. Both women are mothers, community volunteers and each is committed to strengthening the education our children receive in Iowa and in creating a stable funding plan so districts can plan ahead for their particular needs.
Aware of the skyrocketing fiscal needs of health care in Iowa, both women would encourage continued oversight of the new Medicaid program until providers and patients have the help they need.
Each places a priority on mental health issues and wellness programs. Both will fight for good paying jobs and for creating opportunities so our young people can stay in Iowa. I have been privileged to know each of these stellar, conservative candidates since the beginning of their campaigns. A vote for Gadelha and for Hinson will be a vote for strong leadership, open discussions and a forward movement as we improve and grow Iowa together.
