Letter: Violence study is not needed

In a May 6 letter 'Gun violence not a citywide issue,” Evan Vulich correctly stated that gun violence was not a citywide issue. He also was right in saying that many parents in the affected neighborhoods were partially to blame for the problem by not bringing up their children properly. He objected to a proposed study by the Centers for Disease Control. He obviously realizes that this group is largely composed of left-learning doctors and politicians who use it to trample the Second Amendment rights of private citizens. The group was organized to study organic diseases, but is becoming a front for political agendas.

In a May 29 retort, Jozef Figa attempted to discredit the first writer ('Gun violence warrants study by the CDC”). Figa said that since Vulich doesn't live in the southeast side, he doesn't know what those parents teach their children. Figa doesn't live there himself, nor do I. None of us have to. It's common knowledge that many of the kids in question are raised by unwed mothers. The absentee fathers give neither moral nor financial support. Money that should be spent on nourishment, clothing, habitat and education for the children is instead spent on cigarettes, alcohol, drugs and tattoos.

I agree with Vulich that we don't need a tax-funded investigation by a leftist federal agency to point out these facts, just as we don't need a series of expensive outside consultants to tell us how to manage golf courses, ash tree disease, etc.
