Letter: Vernon will serve all residents

Monica Vernon is best suited to lead our city. She has two decades of city experience as a chair and vice chair of the Planning and Zoning Commission, a member of council, and as mayor pro tem.
She served in these roles during a critical time as the city was recovering from the 2008 flood. She understands how local, state and federal governments operate, which can only help our city as we take on other challenges in the coming years. Her connections and relationships will help her take on important issues immediately after she takes office. She understands the power of collaboration and working with all residents of our city.
Although city government calls for a part-time mayor, she will devote her full time energies to this important job. She will have no conflicts of interest.
We need a mayor who understands the perspectives and backgrounds of all city residents. Vote for Vernon on Tuesday.
