Letter: Vanorny is a local rising star

Cedar Rapids is in a fluid space where a lot of things are working well, and we are poised to make change in areas where we can be better. A significant reason Cedar Rapids flourishes is that we make a concerted effort to elect individuals who are engaged in the important work this city needs to thrive.

Ashley Vanorny shows up for Cedar Rapids by being the person that rolls up her sleeves in a desire to enrich the lives of Cedar Rapidians.

She and I worked on a local project, and she impressed me with her zest and commitment. She had nothing invested in the project on a personal level, yet she gave freely of her time and skills. When we were down to the wire and working irregular hours, I asked her why she was putting in so much effort. Her response was, 'I love Cedar Rapids and I love to bring new life here.”

District 5 deserves a representative with her passion and decision-making ability; someone who has been involved on a grass roots level for a long time and is motivated to stay engaged.

On Tuesday, please elect Vanorny as the next member of our great city council.
