Letter: UI should focus on underage drinking

The University of Iowa's focus on social justice issues makes no sense. The real issue is alcohol and drug abuse. Specifically in the case of Marcus Owens, it is underage binge drinking, which the city of Iowa City and University of Iowa will not remain focused. Iowa City needs to deal with its problem of being one of the biggest party towns in the nation.
If Owens had not been intoxicated (blood alcohol level of .116) resulting in drunken behavior of fighting on May 1 wherever he went that night, he would not have ended up embarrassing himself, his family, his college and the city to the entire Midwest.
No good will come of allowing him to continue his college education at the University of Iowa this fall. He has done enough damage to race relations in Iowa City. Owens should focus on getting substance abuse treatment considering his reaction to intoxication demonstrated on May 1.
