Hope voters don't figure out scheme
Let's say you are in Congress and you want to favor your rich constituents. After all, they gave you big campaign contributions.
You could vote for big tax cuts for the rich, but government budgets are tight. Where to find the money for the tax cuts for the rich?
How about cutting pension benefits for public employees such as teachers, police and firefighters? Also, you could free up money by cutting Medicare and Medicaid.
But isn't this Robin Hood in reverse? No worry. For the average voter this is too complicated to understand. Will they really figure out that it amounts to a redistribution of income from the bottom and middle class to the top?
You hope voters don't figure it out.
