Letter to the Editor

Sen. Chuck Grassley is a conservative Republican and I am not, so we do not agree on many issues. However, I was born and raised in Iowa and have lived here for 63 of my 68 years. As his constituent, Sen. Grassley is obligated to represent me as well as Iowa residents who do share his political views. It is the sitting president's constitutional duty to appoint Supreme Court Justices. Those in the Congress who do not recognize and support this are in violation of the separation of powers as laid out in the U.S. Constitution. I have not always agreed with Sen. Grassley's positions, but I have always respected him. I hope that he does not abuse that respect by not giving the president's nominee a fair hearing and a fair vote.
