Letter: Study faces at Museum of Art exhibit

I had not been to the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art for a while and the exhibits are changed so often that I knew I'd miss something fine if I didn't get myself over there. I was so glad I did!

They are presenting 'Face Time,” an exhibition of many kinds of portraiture. Since everyone's face is different and every artist's view is different it's amazing how many ways there are to view faces. Some are done by local artists and by Iowa City people and then many are done by famous artists worldwide.

The wonderful collection of Roman portrait busts donated by Tom and Nan Riley shows power in the ancient world. Mauricio Lasansky's world famous prints show people in a powerful way and his grandson's exhibit shows a personal, sensitive approach. I can hardly wait to see the new Rodin portraits. The varied styles shown in the 'Ladies of the Club” are all so different from one another that it makes you aware of more subtleties in ways to record faces.

If you go to this wonderful exhibit I hope you'll go home and try to draw a familiar face of someone in your family or in your mirror. You'll be able to experience what a face really looks like.
