Letter: Stop the Bakken pipeline in Iowa

I agree with Cheryl Valenta's excellent Feb. 12 guest column 'Bakken pipeline is a bad fit for Iowa.” She's absolutely right. Iowa doesn't need to become a victim of corporate greed tethered to last century's energy sources.
I attended and gave comment at the Iowa Utility Board public hearing in November and have followed the proceedings ever since. It's clear to me that there is no legal precedent for granting eminent domain for a project like the Bakken pipeline. It's also obvious that the IUB members do not have the expertise or the experience to make a decision of this importance that will be in the best interest of Iowa's land, water and way of life. I have no confidence they will do the right thing.
Iowans need to confront Gov. Terry Branstad and demand he stop this pipeline. Call and write him today.
