Letter: Senate health proposals are mean

America will not be great or strong if the population is sick, poor and lacking in adequate reproductive care. The Constitution states that 'all men are created equal.” Perhaps we should start with health.
What kind of greed leads some in Congress to be so self absorbed that they cannot see that the average person can see through the latest Senate proposals that are more than mean they are crooked. The people are not blind. These proposals would cause rural hospitals to close, the disabled to lose benefits, the low wage workers to be faced with impossible bills, children to go without health checks, nursing homes to reduce services, surely adversely affecting those who voted for what they hoped was going to be a change from the paralysis of Washington.
The idea behind the mantra of 'repeal” the ACA was another way of saying remove the surtax on those who were wealthy so that they could be more wealthy. Surely the idea of taxes is to spread wealth in return for services.
America is becoming infamous for the old fashioned ideas that are coming out of Washington. After the Depression, Roosevelt spoke in 1941 of the four freedoms - freedom of speech, freedom to worship, freedom from want and freedom from fear. This Congress is going backward. Write to our Senators at www.grassley.senate.gov and www.ernst.senate.gov.
