Letter: Road construction affects businesses

As a small-business owner, I empathize with entrepreneurs in the downtown and NewBo districts. Floods are a terrible force of nature.
The response to Mayor Ron Corbett's call to action was a wonder to watch. Cedar Rapidians should be proud of the support given to affected business following the high waters of 2016. I wish them a wonderful and profitable 2017.
I have request for the mayor. Please remember the locally owned businesses that are impacted by road construction.
Case in point is the First Avenue project. For more than three months, the area in and around the Town & Country Shopping Center was locked in road construction. Only one lane going each way. Customers couldn't figure out how to navigate where they wanted to go. There weren't any turning lanes and traffic directors wouldn't let cars turn. Cars were backed up for blocks.
It has been a game changer for the businesses and we could use support to help us get back on our feet.
How about it Cedar Rapids! Come on by. Get your nails done. How about a new hair style? Maybe your computer needs a tune up, or you are looking for great wine. Are you a gamer? We have that covered. Do you need your back adjusted or laser work done? ow about new golf clubs, nursing uniform or jewelry? Hungry? We have the best pizza, Thai and Italian food, and cocktails in the city.
Come on, check us out! You won't be sorry.
