Letter: Republican party diluting local control
Mike Healy

Local control is fundamental to democracy. Neighbors know best what is needed in their community. The state legislature and governor seem to be attempting to dilute local control - local school boards cannot set their own calendars, local boards of supervisors cannot be trusted to deal with minimum wage rates, and local city councils cannot enforce local traffic laws without state approval.
For a political party that espouses personal freedom and local control, it is ironic that our Iowa Republican Party is quick to squash local autonomy. An election is not a coronation.
