Letter: Reasons reader voted for Trump

Regarding candidates for president, there is enough immorality to go around. Going beyond rhetoric and accusations, I am concerned about issues, promises and policies for the future of our country. See my letter 'Focus on issues when voting” (July 28).
First, we have the choice between maintaining a free enterprise Republic or devolving into a Marxist state. Having lived in a Marxist country, I know about big government's punishment for politically incorrect statements, regulation of religion and monitoring of every move that stifles freedom. Even that country is learning the failings of collective land and industry ownership.
Second, appointments of federal judges and to the Supreme Court will be either following the U.S. Constitution or will be yielding to international law determined by the United Nations. The latter option means courts will make laws instead of interpreting laws, thereby subverting the role of Congress.
Third, foreign policy of not policing the world but prudent negotiation will benefit the USA and the world. The third presidential debate exposed one candidate who calls for a 'no fly zone” over Syria while accusing Russia of cyber hacking. Provoking Russia into a confrontation spells disaster.
Our most critical election will determine our country's direction. We have no perfect candidate. But we do have a choice. I am for the candidate that stands for greater freedom, smaller government, the U.S. Constitution and wise foreign diplomacy.
While trusting God for our future, I voted for Trump.
