Letter: Reader shares thoughts about columnist

It is frightening that The Gazette has hired a columnist, Adam Sullivan, who somehow thinks the Republican tax plan does not go far enough. The Republican tax plan is a grotesque caricature of a Republican stereotype: giving to the rich by taking from everybody else. The plan seems to have been written by the millionaire from the board game Monopoly. Republicans intend to raise taxes for the middle class, college students and even teachers who purchase school supplies for their classroom, in order to give tax cuts to corporations, business owners and people who inherit more than $6 million. Yet this does not go far enough for Sullivan.

It used to be that Republicans were content to pass tax cuts which mostly helped the wealthy and call it a day. George W. Bush passed a $1.3 trillion tax cut that said goodbye to balanced budgets and ballooned the deficit, but it didn't go out to hurt regular people. This must seem socialist by Sullivan's standards.

Maybe the most telling part of Sullivan's column is where he seems to feel guilty about daring to even gently criticize Steve King. As it concerns tax issues, it appears The Gazette has not hired a conservative columnist. They have hired a zealot who makes Mr. Potter from It's a Wonderful Life look like a liberal.
