Letter: Reader impressed with Faith Ekakitie

I was impressed with Faith Ekakitie's unbiased Facebook post regarding his experience with the Iowa City police. Officers detained him as a suspect following an armed bank robbery by a large black man dressed in black. As a University of Iowa football player, Ekakitie is a large black man who, at the time of the incident, was dressed in black.
Although Ekakitie's posting clearly demonstrated that he appreciated the proper and professional actions of the officers, Jessica Welburn, University of Iowa assistant professor of sociology and African American studies, described the incident as another example of police racial profiling ('Denied the simplest of life's joys,” July 27).
The university would do well to hire Ekakitie as a guest lecturer in their diversity series.
