Letter: Reader has lost respect for Grassley

For many years I voted for Sen. Chuck Grassley's democratic opponent, but I respected him for his honest conservative philosophy.

We agreed on several positions, like support and protection for whistle-blowers. However, several years ago at an Iowa town hall meeting, following the passage of the Affordable Care Act, he was asked by an elderly lady if she should be concerned about government 'death panels.” Sen. Grassley replied that she should be concerned about 'death panels.” Now he knew that these death panels were fictitious and a lie being spread to discredit the Affordable Care Act. His response to this lady continues to be a nonsensical concern in the minds of many citizens.

He has continued to take positions that, in my opinion, are only trying to block the good work of the president and the Democratic Party. The lack of proper governance in Washington by Congress can be laid at the desk of Sen. Grassley and other like-minded Republicans.

His blocking of Judge Merrick Garland's nomination to the Supreme Court tells me that he is more interested in Washington games than representing the people of Iowa. We need a senator with personal integrity. We need a senator who will represent all of the people of Iowa and be responsible to us.
