I'm a proud Eagle Scout and I am disgusted at the way President Donald Trump shamelessly tried to politicize the National Boy Scout Jamboree in his speech to scouts and leaders on July 24.
He spent most of his time bragging about his political success. He thanked the audience for their support, though the tens of thousands of scouts were all under 18 years of age.
He called our nation's capital a 'cesspool” and alluded, with a wink, to 'hot” people he knew who engaged in 'interesting” activities on yachts.
He attacked the press, an essential democratic institution, and predicted the event would not be covered, even as CNN was covering it.
He exaggerated the size of recent jobs reports for which he took undue credit. And on and on.
In short, he displayed the bombast and narcissism which has characterized his presidency, his campaign, and indeed his whole life.
