Letter: Read owners manual before using E15

In his Sept. 22 letter 'To save money at the pump, try E15,” Grant Menke, policy director for the Iowa Renewable Fuels Association, states that any car 2001 or newer can take advantage of E15 blended gasoline.
I disagree. The owners manual for my 2017 Nissan specifically recommends against E15. The exact wording in the manual says, 'E15 fuel contains more than 10 percent oxygenate. E15 fuel will adversely affect the emission control devices and systems of the vehicle and should not be used. Damage caused by such fuel is not covered by the Nissan New Vehicle Limited Warranty.”
Perhaps a little fact checking would be in order before making such a statement. I would recommend car owners carefully read the information provided in the vehicle owners manual before purchasing E15 blended gasoline.
