Letter: Peterson dedicated to serving others

Voters in Delaware County and parts of Jones, Linn and Buchanan counties have the opportunity to elect to the state Senate a man who has dedicated his life to serving others.
Scott Peterson, a farm kid from rural Linn County, served his country for 26 years. A graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, Peterson served six years on active duty as a helicopter pilot. He continued serving for 20 years in the Iowa National Guard where he served as a pilot, in an infantry unit and as a JAG officer.
Following his graduation from the University of Iowa School of Law, his service to the public continued as an attorney in the Linn County Attorney's office. Later, while in private practice, he served as city attorney for several municipalities, including Mount Vernon and Palo. He has served his hometown of Mount Vernon as a city council member and mayor. He serves as city attorney for North Liberty.
Served, service, serves. A bit redundant, you may think. But that is the only way to describe the life of Peterson, a man who offers his experience with local government and his servant heart to the people of Iowa as a candidate for the Iowa Senate. I urge voters to call him into service one more time: elect Peterson to the Iowa Senate.
