Letter: Oppose confirmation of Judge Gorsuch

I'm one of the majority of Americans who believes the power of big money in politics is a monumental threat to our democracy. That's why I oppose the confirmation of Judge Neil Gorsuch to the U.S. Supreme Court and hope Sen. Chuck Grassley will publicly oppose him too.
For much of my 28 years, the Supreme Court has sided with wealthy campaign donors over everyday voters. President Donald Trump had an opportunity to stand up for ordinary Americans by nominating a justice who not only cares about protecting free, fair and transparent elections in the United States, but also the right to vote itself. Instead, he chose Judge Gorsuch. His confirmation would be a giant gift to wealthy campaign donors and yet another impediment to Americans endeavoring to exercise their rights.
The article published in The Gazette on March 15, 'Senate Democrats preview their case against Gorsuch,” neglected to mention the unprecedented obstruction undertaken in the Senate last year so that Judge Gorsuch could be nominated in the first place. But now that we're at this point, Gorsuch's past rulings suggest he'd oppose even the most basic limits on donor power. Americans of all stripes desire the opposite result. We are tired of our voices being drowned out by obscene amounts of election spending and the cacophony of special interests.
Money in politics will be a tough issue to solve. Those solutions, however, will not come from a confirmation to the Supreme Court of Judge Gorsuch.
