Letter: No consideration for people in need

The Oct. 26 story 'C.R. council defeats low-income complex” quotes Ron Corbett, 'I don't think the CommonBond people have made a strong enough argument this is the location for the project. I think there's been a stronger argument that this isn't the location for the project.”
I have been following this issue and CommonBond did make every point they needed to. Opposition was from nimbys not wanting 'those people” in their neighborhood who argued that the neighborhood wouldn't be a 'good fit” for 'this project.” Quite a change from a few years ago when, knowing the people wanted a vote on whether to close Second Avenue, the mayor blew us all off with the comment, 'I have the votes on the council, so I don't need to take a vote.” Guess the 'mayor for all the people” (his assertion in his first mayoral election) doesn't consider these people in need important enough or the money big enough for him to do the right thing.
Secondly, the Oct. 31 guest column 'A better solution to Social Security funding” by financial planner Norman Barnes was lame, biggest change being, surprise surprise, the stock market. The way to fix Social Security isn't to raise the taxable limit (his other idea), but to eliminate the cap entirely. If you make over the cap you're rich - period. Get down on your knees and thank the lucky stars you make so much more than most people and do this to care for your fellow man. This will fix Social Security for good. It's the right thing to do.
