Letter: Monica Vernon will get the job done

I was thrilled to read the article ('Downtown living in demand,” Aug. 27) on the development trend in Cedar Rapids.
The last eight years have been marked by incredible development and progress since the 2008 flood. And, as the article mentioned, this is a true testament to our effective local government.
The vision of the city council under Monica Vernon's leadership as mayor pro tempore, was essential to laying the foundation for the successes we're enjoying today. Vernon's focus on quality of life in the redevelopment of downtown and the surrounding neighborhoods is why demand is growing. Young people and retirees are looking for walkable, livable communities with amenities and we're offering just that.
Our development wasn't by chance, Vernon and her colleagues made smart investments in our small business community that laid a strong foundation for redevelopment. Vernon got the job done for our communities and she'll do the same in Congress.
Join me in voting for Vernon for Iowa's 1st District on Nov. 8.
