Letter: Monica Vernon will fight for workers

One line really stood out to me in State Senators Rob Hogg and Wally Horn's piece ('Time to raise minimum wage in Linn County,” July 31): 'While no one should expect to get rich earning the minimum wage, no full-time worker should live in poverty.”
Iowans don't want handouts. We want good-paying jobs that allow us to support our families. We want an economy that rewards the hard work of the middle class, not an economy that funnels money into large corporations that are shipping American jobs overseas. Hardworking Iowans don't need partisan talking points and lip service.
We need a representative in Washington who fights to protect workers and grow our local economy, not corporate handouts with little to show for them. With over 20 endorsements from labor unions and hardworking Iowans supporting her, Monica Vernon will be the representative that fights or us and that's why I'll be supporting her in November.
