Letter: Monica Vernon puts families first

I recently saw Monica Vernon's ad on television and I was pleased to see a positive message.
Vernon is the Democratic nominee for the U.S. House of Representatives in the First District. In the past four years I've had several opportunities to visit personally with Vernon and I've been impressed with her genuineness and her commitment to all families.
Before her service on the Cedar Rapids City Council, she had built a reputation for progressive leadership. She spearheaded a campaign to raise the necessary funding to build a center for homeless women and families. She knows hardworking families in Iowa need a chance to succeed. Pro-family policies like affordable child care, expanded family sick leave and equal pay for equal work are essential to the success of the middle class and our economy.
I'm tired of politicians making special arrangements for big corporations with little to show for it. I want my tax dollars to go toward giving families the opportunity to make a good life for themselves right here in northeast Iowa. That's why I'm proud to stand with Vernon and vote for her.
