Letter: Monica Vernon has experience to lead

Eastern Iowa deserves more from its representative in Congress.
Monica Vernon has what we need: someone with business and entrepreneurial experience, someone with the ability to wade through data and make sense of it, and someone who has new ideas and is willing to try them. And does she have the ability to work across the aisle? I should say so.
She understands Republicans because she used to be one. I say that's a good thing. It shows her willingness to change her mind when circumstances warrant it. When the Republican Party showed its unwillingness to accept gays and lesbians, many people left the party.
I suppose many more have left it because of Donald Trump. If we want to elect someone with an independent mind, we better be looking at Vernon, who could stand up to such things.
One only has to look at Monica and Bill Vernon's daughters to see what a wonderful job they did as parents. And look at the company that Vernon grew, Vernon Research Group, and look at the New Bo District, which Vernon helped develop as a city council member by working with all the branches of government.
I'd hate to think that we had such a talented person in our midst, and did not elect her to Congress.
