Letter misrepresents what Tea Party is about
May. 7, 2010 12:13 am
I felt it necessary to respond to the April 30 letter from Thomas Sass. He is, of course, entitled to his opinion, albeit misguided. There was more hatred in his letter than I have seen in 12 months of The 912 Project meetings or at the Tea Party rally I attended last summer.
I've not heard or seen any hate toward President Obama at these gatherings. We disagree with his politics and that is as far as it goes. The idea of a racial component is ludicrous.
I find it interesting that someone who has never attended a Tea Party would have all the facts about it simply by reading the New York Times. Mr. Sass accuses us of taking propaganda as factual when he is doing just that. Should he like to educate himself as to what we are about rather than relying on the media spin - we meet twice monthly at a local restaurant. We have dinner, discuss current events, read books, study history, talk about the Constitution and our country's future and welcome an occasional speaker.
Our group wants to see our tax dollars handled responsibly and some common sense and truth come out of Washington for a change. We don't believe that is too much to ask of our elected officials. Those who cry racism at every criticism do so because they really have no logical argument against the Tea Party they despise.
