Letter: Make sewer repairs, not sidewalks, a priority

Regarding the May 31 article '‘I don't like sidewalks'”:

I have lived in the neighborhood near Jefferson High School for 40 years. About 25 years ago I designated this neighborhood as an ideal place to take my walks for exercise. For a period of time I would walk it three times a week.

At 72 I still get around it once or twice a week. I can testify that during the 25 years I have walked this route I may have seen two or three other people at most over that period. I've walked in the mornings, afternoons and early evenings and never have had a close call with an automobile. For the city to cut down trees, build retaining walls and sidewalks is a waste of taxpayer money and government overreach. It's no wonder this country is $22 trillion in debt and this city wants to build something that will never justify the expense.

I recommend the city council reconsider this project and stick with the sewer repairs.
