Letter: Library receives adequate funding
Kevin Patrick Schneider
Apr. 23, 2016 5:00 am
I'm writing this letter and publicly announcing, I would like to become an active board member of the Cedar Rapids Library board of trustees. I would encourage other citizens to become involved by sending letters to the Cedar Rapids mayor's office, in support of my appointment to the Cedar Rapids board of trustees.
Des Moines, whose population is 200,000, operates a main library and five branches, with an annual expense of $8.4 million. Cedar Rapids, whose population is 130,000, operates a main library and one small satellite, with an annual expense of $6.5 million.
My pledge to the citizens of Cedar Rapids, if you support my efforts, as a trustee member I will not ask for increased property taxes or taxes of any sort, to support the Cedar Rapids Library. Funds provided are more than sufficient for the library and annual expenditures should be reduced. These reductions shall do no harm or have any negative impact to our children or adults who depend on the library and its services.
