Letter: Labor taking a hit from lawmakers

We have seen the Republican-controlled Iowa House and Senate decrease the bargaining power of state employees. I hope that all public employees who voted for these Republicans realize that they made this possible.
The Republicans did this as soon as possible so you might forget about it by the next election. I will bet that you didn't hear anyone from this party campaign that they would be voting for this bill. They did say that they would cut taxes, just forgot to say they would do it on the backs of labor. This is what is called sneaking it in under the table.
The next thing on the list is to weaken the workers' compensation laws - if you get hurt on the job you may just get dumped by your employer. Next on the list is to change voter laws so the poor and old would lose their right to vote if they don't have proper identification. Next let's deny counties the right to raise the minimum wage.
When the Iowa House and Senate are controlled by Republicans it will not be good for labor. Wake up, labor.
