Letter: It’s time for Sen. Grassley to step aside

I am registered as an independent and have been for decades Although I tend to be liberal in my voting record, I have in the past voted for Sen. Chuck Grassley because he seemed to stand out in Washington as a man who spoke for the common man and stood for the ideals we, as Midwesterners, want represented. Unfortunately, those days are gone.
What little that he still is doing to safeguard his constituents on government waste is very much overshadowed by the partisan nonsense he pulls as the chairman of the Judiciary Committee. He has become the poster boy for hypocrisy. If you keep current with the daily news, I won't have to detail all the recent blatantly partisan positions that our senior senator has embraced by publicly stating that Republicans need to pass a tax bill solely for the reason that they promised to do it, speaks volumes. He is taking hard lined party positions daily and I think it is high time that common sense minded Iowans speak out and let him know that
we will not stand for this pettiness anymore.
Most people in this state, believe it or not, live in a world that embraces ideas from many perspectives. Sen. Grassley, it is time for you to step aside for the good of all Iowans and let someone with real fortitude and conviction, who will not be swayed so easily by party loyalty, represent us in the future.
