Letter: Iowans better off without Rizer’s suppport

Mercifully, for the average Iowan, this legislative session has ended and it's eight months before Ken Rizer returns to Des Moines to take away more of our rights, protections and money.

He argued he was for education, crowing about a $40 million increase in education aid. We needed $80 million just to stay even. Postsecondary education took a hit when Rizer voted to cut $18 million from our universities and $3 million from our community colleges. I think Iowans will be better off with less of Rizer's 'education support”.

Worse though is Rizer's view of Des Moines knowing how we should live better than we do. Apparently, a former Washington, D.C. base commander knows more about what our minimum wage should be in Linn County than we do. Interestingly someone whose only lived here four years knows more about which bags we should use to carry our groceries than we do and, thankfully, we have a Minnesota high school graduate to tell us what day is the 'right” day for our kids to go to school instead of our locally elected school boards.

Oh, and don't forget the property tax increase Linn County property owners get for Rizer's solution to our non-existent voter fraud problem. An increase he avoids by not owning property in Linn County.

Let's hope there's no need for a special session.
