Letter: Invest in education, not sports venue

In the midterm election over $5 billion went to the media for ads and for the general election it's way over $10 billion. With all the citizens who need food, shelter and health care, it's a disgrace that this money from the wealthy doesn't go to those in need.
At University of Iowa, hardworking students are in debt and the athletic department is going to waste $90 million on one end zone at the football stadium.
Twenty-seven percent of students quit the first year and less than 45 percent graduate and over 50 percent move back home with their parents with $20,000-$40,000 in debt. Paying salaries to coaches in the multimillions and ignoring the fact that it's the students and not the sports teams that need assistance. It's time they cut the glut at Iowa and all universities in favor of our young people trying to have a better life through getting a good education. We don't want our young people to end up like the Hawkeyes (in the cellar).
