Letter: Honor Flight volunteers are heroes

The April 18 Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. was a demonstration of selflessness by numerous volunteers who organized and oversaw the flight. They treated each veteran like some kind of hero, but they are the heroic ones. The volunteers worked tirelessly by providing food, water, ambulatory needs and transportation.
Honor Flight volunteers organized the day with clockwork precision, yet at a comfortable pace. How great it is to be escorted through Washington, D.C. like a presidential motorcade by a police escort that stopped other traffic at intersections. Wow!
How can one express the feeling of gratitude to all who welcomed our return by coming to the airport in a rainy, late evening hour? Also to the numerous law enforcement and firefighting personnel who were there thanking us for our service. My response to each was to thank them for their service; they are still serving. A very special thank you to the guardians who dedicated their day to a veteran. Thanks, too, to the countless businesses and individuals who made this flight possible.
