Thank you to The Gazette and correspondent Mark Dukes for the team picture and article remembering Miller's 'Six Pack” ('Memorable season,” Jan. 24.)
Following that team go 14-0 in conference play in the 1969-70 season was an experience a lot of older Hawkeye fans will remember forever. It was amazing that they averaged 102.9 points per game (Big Ten record) considering there was no shot clock or 3 point goal. An obvious reason why a Gazette reader suggested they be nicknamed 'The Century Club.”
If you are too young to remember this team, or missed this article, I suggest you find a copy and read some interesting stories and amazing stats related to a great basketball team; such as scoring 75 points in the first half of a consolation NCAA tournament game against Notre Dame.
Ralph Miller had an amazing ability to coach a team to win a game when the only time they led, was the last few seconds. Go Hawks!
