In 2008, I arrived in Cedar Rapids to a devastated yet resilient community. As I toured the region, exploring an opportunity as president for the Cedar Rapids Chamber of Commerce, my heart was breaking for residents and business owners.
I was greeted by Brad Hart, a member of the search committee. He made a lifelong impression as he demonstrated his dedication to rebuilding the community and his willingness to do whatever it took to ensure the community would continue to thrive. He was the reason I took that opportunity.
I was extremely fortunate to work with him on a daily basis. He served on the chamber's board, and much of the success we had was because of his dedication.
I understand Hart is running for mayor and I could not imagine a better person for the job. He is a man of great character and possesses many attributes that would make him a spectacular mayor. He has the ability to bring people together. His leadership is demonstrated through empathetic listening, respecting diverse thoughts, and responding in a thoughtful manner. As leader, mentor, collaborator and friend, he is an excellent choice.
