Letter: Federal government should spend less

Any perusal of recent media is overrun with woeful comments about the impact of the pending tax changes on the national debt. It is said that the plan may add more than a trillion dollars to the national debt over the next 10 years. While that certainly is a cause for concern, no one in the Washington, D.C. swamp has mentioned the single most effective way of eliminating that concern. The federal government should spend less.

I feel it is my civic duty to shed light on this solution that has not been discovered by the federal legislators. Redundant or unnecessary programs can be eliminated. Ineffective programs can be re-targeted. Certainly the debate on what expenses should be looked at to fit the categories above will be lively, but no more so than the debate on how to craft the tax restructuring.
