Letter: Faith page not limited to one religion

The Aug. 13 letter to the editor 'Reader disagrees with coverage” by Rev. Lawrence Schmidt regarding the July 23 article 'Being good without God” about the former minister who is now an atheist, was a very good example of why the numbers of humanists, agnostics and atheists is growing worldwide.
The Gazette's Faith and Values pages are reflective of all the world's cultures. It is not limited to one religion, but rather is a place for discussing ideas behind various belief systems.
The letter writer's restrictive message negates groups including Jewish, Muslim, Buddhist, Hindu, and, I suspect, other Christian religions that are not exactly like his. That self-imposed restriction is unfortunate, both for members of his congregation and for the rest of us who have different points of view. Sometimes, religious leaders are their own worst enemies.
