Letter: Embarrassed for Iowa and democracy

I attended one of Rep. Rod Blum's town halls as I am concerned about a number of issues facing our country. I was hoping to participate in a 'grown up conversation” about some of the very difficult and complex challenges in health care and our economy. Instead, the event was a 'set up” by some whose main objective was to turn the event into a circus, void of actual discussion.
An example was when Congressman Blum started to discuss health care and its status in Iowa saying that we would soon be down to one insurance provider within the Iowa exchange and was then drowned out by a loud chorus of 'liar, liar” with no chance to discuss the issue.
It's a scary thing for democracy when a focused group can eliminate grown up discourse on issues that face us today and into the future. We all know that things can be improved, but if we don't allow our representatives to listen, learn and discuss, society will be the big loser.
