Letter: Elect Borcherding to CR school board
Connie Stusak
Sep. 11, 2017 1:00 am
On Tuesday, vote for Jennifer Borcherding for the Cedar Rapids Community School Board of Education, District 3.
She has two sons in the Cedar Rapids Community School District. If elected, she will be the only parent of elementary age children on the school board. She has been involved as a community participant in the development of the district's strategic plan. Her involvement in that process led her to running for the school board. She is running against an incumbent who has held the same seat for more than 20 years. It is time for a positive change.
She serves as a trustee of the Cedar Rapids School District Foundation. She combines a wealth of knowledge about the district gained from her years on the district foundation, with a strong commitment to achieve the district's ambitious goals in our community. She will bring her fresh ideas and perspective to the board as it considers many significant changes over the course of the next four years.
Her commitment to equity for all students will serve our students and our community well. Her belief that classroom teachers must be heard when changes are proposed that impact learners in the classroom is vitally important as changes in Iowa's bargaining laws - aiming to diminish teacher perspective - come into effect.
