Letter: Downtown streets are a mess

Well, now that the out-of-state consultant is gone, we are stuck with what the consultant left behind - downtown.
This could possibly be the worst decision Cedar Rapids ever made - between angle parking, parklets, bike lanes, one- and two-way streets and card parking meters - it is a giant mess.
Traffic does not flow smoother. If anything, it's 10 times worse. Why don't our city leaders listen to the people who live here? The best streets that lasted the longest were the old cobblestone/brick, but let's tear all them up and do it our way, put sidewalks in residential neighborhoods were they're not wanted, remove trees and landmarks for new improved designs.
All I hear is how folks are avoiding downtown, so what was gained? Super high property taxes, that's what we've gained. My next stop is a city council meeting.
