I support Dale Todd for District 3 City Council. He is an effective and passionate advocate for social justice, urban planning, economic and recreational opportunities, as well as gender and racial equity.
Since 1974, he has devoted a significant amount of time and effort volunteering on nearly 40 nonprofit boards, commissions, planning groups, and task forces to improve the quality of life in Cedar Rapids.
Due to his experience as commissioner of parks and public property from 1998-2002, he understands how government works, and has the knowledge and energy to tackle controversies and barriers. He will hit the ground running on day one of his term.
I'm impressed with his leadership. He seeks out new ideas and differing perspectives, weighs alternatives, considers possible outcomes, and develops sound strategies. He's approachable, engaged, friendly, courageous, and genuinely committed to governing well.
His leadership in projects to revitalize Wellington Heights and Cedar Lake, as well as the NewBo-Czech Village neighborhoods have culminated in remarkable results, including the development of housing, trails, and public spaces.
He has chaired the Southside Investment Board since the Flood of 2008, and was instrumental in getting the NewBo City Market off the ground. In addition, he has worked tirelessly on the development of the Sleeping Giant pedestrian bridge, which will be a beautiful addition to our fine city.
