False savings: an action that saves money in the short run, but leads to greater costs or lost income in the long run.
Example: The Iowa Legislature saving $700,000 per year by cutting off funding for the Center for Global and Regional Environmental Research at the University of Iowa, an organization that brought in $21 million in grants from outside Iowa last year.
