Letter: Congress incapable of passing gun laws

We've legalized just about anyone to purchase a weapon of mass destruction in the form of a military-style weapon capable of firing 30+ rounds without changing clips.
So, why do we do this? The answer seems to be that special interest groups have a lock on our Congress to the extent that Congress is incapable of passing sane gun laws. This inability to act rationally is a systemic problem and can be fixed only when we force Congress to pass term limits, make gerrymandering illegal and reverse the Citizens United decision.
Once we do this we, the people, will have greater input on what we need to do as a country to protect all citizens in a rational and meaningful way. Until we force some systemic changes as to how our Congress behaves, incidents like Orlando will continue unabated.
