Letter: Community spirit evident during flood

My husband and I are from St. Charles, where we had a record flood covering most of our area in 1993. Our son, who was only three then, is now a new resident of Cedar Rapids, having relocated there two months ago. We visited your lovely city for the first time over Labor Day weekend and truly fell in love with it. Over the past days, we have watched and prayed with you, the wonderful folks of Cedar Rapids, as you have handled an ominous task in bravely confronting the flood.
Please know that we are proud and grateful that our son chose such a place for his new 'home.” We have been so impressed by the community spirit demonstrated by your people, especially during this challenging time. You surely exemplify what it means to be good stewards of the land and family that is your community.
We wish you all the best in the coming days and look forward to our next visit to Iowa.
