Letter: Community defined by spirit of cooperation

It was heartwarming to see the tremendous response of our community to the recent flood threat. Students, friends, neighbors, relatives, employees and volunteers throughout the community came together in a spirit of cooperation to help out and save others from the threat presented by the rising water.
But let us not forget that all that help would have been ineffective without the thoughtful planning, dedication, hard work and commitment of our local government and governmental employees.
The greatness of a community is defined more by the spirit and cooperation of its citizens than by its size. As with community, might not it be better to refrain from too many arguments about the size of government? Instead wouldn't it be more productive to put our energy toward demanding an exceptional and responsive government that provided the tools and support for individual citizens and communities as a whole to reach for and achieve their dreams?
