Letter: City parks on NW side need attention

Dear Mayor Ron Corbett:
Why is it that our northwest side parks are such a mess? Recently, I have gone from park to park and find that even the park with the Five Seasons logo is maintained to perfection. Our Ellis Park, Cherry Hill Park, Jacolyn Park are full of weeds and poorly maintained.
Last year and every year since the flood our park has fallen to further disrepair. I was told that the parks department are letting Ellis grow up in natural wildflowers. The only thing it's growing are a bunch of nasty weeds, bugs and mosquitoes. Why? It used to be a beautiful park, but now has the look of an inner city slum.
I'm ashamed of the way it looks and the way it is portrayed during the Fish-O-Rama. Many people have commented how nasty it was last year. People pay a large amount of taxes and should have a say in the way our parks look here in Cedar Rapids. Do your jobs, get our parks back to the way they used to look and quit worrying about how you are going to build more for your corridor.
